Data Center Engineer

Job Description:

ColoSpace, Inc. (www.colospace.com) is a leading provider of Colocation, Managed Hosting, and Disaster Recovery Services in New England. We deliver an array of services to support mission-critical applications from our network of five data centers located in Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire.

The successful candidate will assist ColoSpace in delivering superior support and service to our diverse customer base. Our ideal candidate is one that possesses experience supporting Internet-based applications yet still has a strong desire to expand their skill-set into related technology. The Level 2 Data Center Engineer should be a subject matter expert in at least one core discipline (Server Administration, Security, Storage, or Networking). Opportunities exist for the first shift as well as second and overnight.

The Data Center Engineer directly contributes to the success of ColoSpace by providing support to its diverse client base. General responsibilities include Cisco firewall administration, general server administration in a heterogeneous Windows Server and Linux environment, troubleshooting service problems, performing preventative maintenance on servers and network equipment, and assisting in the smooth migration of new customers to a ColoSpace Data Center.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with installation of new clients in ColoSpace Data Centers
  • Provision services according to client specifications
  • Help Administer servers and applications including DNS, E-mail, WWW, SQL, etc.
  • Monitor, diagnose, and resolve network and issues
  • Apply security updates to servers
  • Troubleshoot application-accessibility and related problems

Technology Focus:

  • Networking (Routers, Switches, etc)

  • Reliable and responsible team player with a focus on customer service.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and apply knowledge to solve unique problems
  • Possess a valid driver's license and reliable automobile and be willing to travel regionally to other Data Center locations
  • Willingness to interact extensively with customers to assist with implementation or service-related issues
  • Candidate must be willing to participate in off-hours on call rotation with other technicians

Additional Desired Certification:

  • Cisco certification
  • ITIL Certification

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 2+ years relevant working experience
  • BA/BS in relevant subject preferred

Pre-Sales Systems Engineer (PSE)

Job Description:

The successful candidate will assist the ColoSpace sales team in all pre-sales technical support and consultative sales activities including: solution design, technical specification validation, customer presentations, proposal response, webinars, white boarding etc… Additionally the PSE will act as liaison to corporate product and technical support.

Our ideal candidate is one that possesses deep knowledge and experience in supporting sales into data center environments including technical architecture, managed services, monitoring and networking solutions with working knowledge of security, storage and networking.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist sales team with all pre-sales technical activities for both new customer acquisition and existing client expansion.
  • Solution design creation and technical validation
  • Presentation of technical solutions to prospects/clients on-site or via WebEx
  • Conduct data center tours
  • Active participation in proposal response
  • Liaison – knowledge transfer with technical team and customer support
  • Assist in the provisioning of client specific requirements
